Good news for those of you who enjoy a nice cold Coke: the company has rolled out a new bottle made entirely from frozen water. Bad news for those of you who don’t live in Colombia: It’s only available in Colombia. This icy new drinking vessel is shaped like the traditional glass Coke bottle and has the company’s name etched into the ice, according to Coca Cola’s website. Alas, right now you can only find it in Colombia, and there’s no word yet if Coke will introduce it in any other countries. But apparently it’s pretty popular so far — according to the site, beachside vendors have sold an average of 265 bottles per hour. If you’re at least a marginally curious person, then perhaps you’re wondering how this works. Basically, these bottles are made of silicone molds filled with micro-filtered water, frozen to -13°F. Once you’ve drunk all the Coke, the bottle melts away. Oh, and each bottles come equipped with a rubber red band to make it easier to hold the vessel. The band then doubles as a bracelet. Coke is touting the environmentally friendly nature of these melt-away bottles, but as A News points out, they require so much extra refrigeration that it basically cancels out the eco-friendly aspect. /201307/247691

It seems like our favorite excuse: ;There just aren#39;t enough hours in the day.; It gets us out of workouts, concocting nutritious homemade meals, sleeping enough.“每天时间就是不够用啊!”,这简直是用烂了的借口了。 But does health have to be a trade-off with time? A new study examined the time American adults spend on beneficial behavior and found that many of us are sacrificing one health-promoting activity for another. Among health-minded folk, a 10-minute increase in meal prep time meant a 10-minute shorter workout, MyHealthNewsDaily reported. ;If we assume, for example, that adults have 45 minutes of free time to allocate to health-promoting behaviors, maybe we need to look at that holistically and determine the optimal way to use that time,; Rachel Tumin, lead author of the study and epidemiology student at The Ohio State University#39;s College of Public Health, said in a statement. If we only have 45 proverbial minutes, we plan to make the most of them. Luckily, there are easy (and cheap) ways to be healthier in just minutes. Below, some of our favorite ways to improve our bodies and minds in 10 minutes or less. Let us know in the comments which quick-and-easy health-boosting methods you swear by. A 60-second chuckle is all it takes to release stress-busting endorphins and relax the muscles. And if you make laughing a regular practice, you can look forward to more stable blood sugar, healthier blood flow and even a longer life.60秒的轻声笑能释放造成压力的内啡肽,放松肌肉。 In Two Minutes: Say Thanks两分钟以内:说谢谢It doesn#39;t take long to say those two little words, but they can make a big difference. Not only will giving thanks make the person on the receiving end feel good, a little gratitude can boost your health, too. Appreciation can protect the heart, according to a 1995 study, not to mention bolster the immune system and even lead to better sleep.1995年的研究显示,感激之情会保护心脏,更别说提高免疫系统、促进睡眠啦。In Three Minutes: Make A Three-Minute Egg三分钟之内:吃鸡蛋Eggs get a bad rap for being high in dietary cholesterol. But these easy-to-prepare eats actually have a number of properties that improve health. They#39;re loaded with choline, a B vitamin essential to brain function, and may stave off heart problems. An egg-centric breakfast has also been shown to aid weight loss and, as part of a high-protein breakfast, could help you stay away from the less nutritious snacks later on in the day. In Four Minutes: Take Some Deep Breaths四分钟之内:多做几次深呼吸You don#39;t have to be a seasoned yogi or master of meditation to reap the calming benefits of a deep breath. Wherever you are, you can take a few minutes to breathe in through the nose to a count of three, pause briefly, then exhale to a count of three or longer. Try thinking to yourself while you breathe: ;Breathing in, I am peace, breathing out, I am peace;. In Five Minutes: Try A Mini-Circuit五分钟之内:小型运动It won#39;t make up for a 45-minute Spinning class or a long walk in the woods, but even just a five-minute workout is enough to rev your metabolism. 20 crunches20个仰卧起坐15 slow, controlled squats15个缓慢的下蹲10 slow, controlled pushups10个缓慢的俯卧撑10 burpees (squat-thrust-jumps)10个全身运动(蹲下-伸腿-跳起)In Six Minutes: Take The Stairs六分钟之内:爬楼梯Do you really need to get up to the office right now? With a few minutes to spare, take the stairs instead. Adding even just a little movement to your day can help fight the adverse effects sitting too much. And adding three to five sets of stairs a day instead of zooming up in that elevator can burn enough calories to negate the average adult#39;s yearly one to two-pound weight gain. In Seven Minutes: Read The Labels七分钟以内:看营养成分标签Turns out, even the health-minded among us claim we nutrition labels more than we actually do. Take a little time to peruse not just calories, but fat content, trans fat, sugar, serving size and maybe even fiber for everything you put in your cart. In Eight Minutes: Schedule That Appointment八分钟之内:安排个约会Yes, you#39;re busy. But even if you factor in a few extra minutes to be on hold, making the call won#39;t take that long. And should you find yourself facing a true health problem, won#39;t you feel silly saying, ;I was just too busy to call the doctor!;是的,你是个大忙人。 If you wait to think about lunch until you#39;re ravenous between meetings, you#39;ll be tempted to grab something packaged or processed to quell your midday hunger. With a little foresight, you can squash those lunch cravings the morning (or night) before with a nutritious, homemade meal. Not only will you have control over things like sodium and fat content, you#39;ll likely save some money, too. In 10 Minutes: Take A Nap十分钟之内:打个盹Feeling sleepy? There#39;s no shame in squeezing in a little shut-eye during the day, especially when you consider the benefits. Not only will you feel more awake and alert after a short nap, research suggests a siesta can improve memory, creativity and productivity. The best part of all? Just 10 minutes will do the trick. Too much more than that and you might just feel more sluggish when you wake up. /201305/238127

It was love at first sight for a baby chipmunk who stumbled upon a teddy bear during a garden outing. The young golden-mantled ground chipmunk planted a smacker on the pink stuffed toy after a few minutes of courtship in a garden in Colorado, U.S. At first the chipmunk was suspicious of his new friend and approached the teddy bear with caution, but after a quick check, there was no denying the connection. He gradually gained more confidence, plucking up the courage to examine the teddy more closely, and appeared to plant a kiss on the toy#39;s mouth. Then, in an almost human-like reaction, the chipmunk shut his eyes tight and clasped his hands together in a joy-like pose. The heart-warming pose was captured by photographer Betsy Seeton, 55, who had put the teddy outside her home for the squirrel to play with. The chipmunk is a frequent visitor at Betsy#39;s house and she has even nicknamed him Jasper. She said that watching Jasper examine the teddy bear was like watching a toddler meet a new friend. Betsy said: ‘I put the teddy bear outside my home for fun and to see what Jasper would do. Jasper stayed with the bear for at least a couple of minutes - and I definitely think it looked like Jasper gave the teddy bear a kiss. ‘It is always fun to watch Jasper, and all the other squirrels and chipmunks that visit our home, playing and learning.“看着Jasper还有其他松鼠、花栗鼠到我们家来玩是件很有意思的事。”‘The curious behaviour is typical of these animals, they are always looking for nuts. Of all the photos I have taken, these ones are definitely up there in terms of how cute they are.’“好奇是这些动物的特点,它们总是在到处找坚果。 /201302/223742

Your flight gets canceled and the airline says it doesn#39;t have a seat for you for a full day. But you find another airline has a flight leaving in one hour. What to do? Beg the airline to send your ticket to its competitor. Do it nicely, because there#39;s no rule that says the airline has to help you. How to regulate good service and fair dealings, if at all, has been a quandary for years. But stakes are higher now. The average airline load factor -- the percentage of seats filled -- rose to 82.8% last year, the highest for scheduled air service since 1945. With planes so full, airlines have limited reserve capacity to rebook customers after flights get canceled. Some passengers wait for days to get to destinations. The Department of Transportation says over the last four years it has taken a more aggressive stance on passenger rights, pushing through regulations to curb long tarmac delays, increase compensation for ticketed passengers involuntarily bumped from flights and require airlines to always display the full price of airfares, including taxes and fees. Airlines let passengers either cancel or hold a reservation without penalty for 24 hours and reimburse baggage fees if bags are lost, because DOT requires them to. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, who is stepping down after four years, said in an interview he became frustrated with airline service flying between Washington, D.C., and his home state of Illinois, and set out to force improvement. #39;When people are paying a pretty good amount of money to fly, they ought to be given the service they paid for and they ought to be treated with respect and treated like adults,#39; he said. The Republican supported passenger-rights legislation every year when he was a U.S. representative, but every attempt in Congress has failed. As DOT secretary, Mr. LaHood grew outraged at passengers stuck on planes for nine-plus hours in deplorable conditions, and pushed through hefty penalties for airlines that keep people on planes longer than three hours without a chance to deplane. The tarmac delay rule has dramatically curbed lengthy strandings. Passengers have some other protections:乘客还能享受到其它一些保护:Airlines typically provide meals and hotels when travelers are stranded overnight because of an airline problem, though not because of weather or other exceptions. When airlines lose bags, they#39;re on the hook to pay out as much as ,300 per passenger for domestic trips. (Carriers set the value of possessions lost, however.) Fliers bumped from overbooked flights and stuck for hours are entitled to four times their ticket price, up to ,300, on the spot in cash. But beyond overbooking, baggage and tarmac delays, government and Congress have largely struggled to figure out rules and requirements. Last year Congress created a four-member committee to advise the DOT on what passenger protections were needed. The panel, which included airline and airport officials, advocated some basic principles like knowing the cost of the entire trip before purchasing a ticket. The only firm recommendation? That DOT require airports and airlines to provide #39;animal relief areas.#39;唯一具体的建议是什么呢? Passenger advocates say plenty more should be done. #39;Passengers have very few rights and many of the ones on paper are not really enforced,#39; says Paul Hudson, executive director of the nonprofit Aviation Consumer Action Project, which advocates for airline passengers. One of the biggest problems, Mr. Hudson says, is that Congress exempted airlines from state laws so consumers can only take disputes to federal court, not state court. That raises the cost and the legal threshold to sue an airline. #39;In every other industry you have consumer protection laws that are state and local,#39; Mr. Hudson said. #39;Airlines argue they can#39;t be regulated by patchwork state laws, but Wal-Mart is.#39;哈德森说,最大的问题之一是,国会让航空公司免于州法律的约束,因此消费者只能将纠纷起诉到联邦法院而不是州法院。 Airlines for America, the industry#39;s lobbying group, says air travel is almost always crossing state lines and airlines can#39;t be subjected to a particular state#39;s rules. Carriers have improved service on their own and are responding to passenger issues without legislation or regulation that could raise ticket prices, the group says. #39;Other industries are not subjected to such irrational rules,#39; A4A Chief Executive Nick Calio said in recent Senate testimony. When the industry was regulated before 1978, a federal rule known as Rule 240 required airlines to send customers to competitors if they canceled flights. Without Rule 240, passengers often can#39;t use their ticket on another airline that might have available seats.1978年以前,当航空业受到监管的时候,一项名为Rule 240的联邦法规要求航空公司在取消航班的时候把乘客转给竞争对手。 Eight years ago, the European Union established what seemed like far-reaching consumer protections, requiring that airlines compensate passengers for long delays and cancellations. The intent was to force carriers to reduce delays and cancellations due to light bookings. But the groundbreaking effort didn#39;t go particularly well. Passenger protections proved confusing and, to a large extent, hollow. Airlines were given a broad exemption for #39;extraordinary circumstances#39; and often refused to pay passenger claims. Little has changed. The European Commission#39;s latest stabs at regulation take a more pragmatic approach. If enacted, it would give European travelers firmer protections than what U.S. passengers receive. Earlier this month, the commission proposed revisions that would strengthen some areas for consumers and give airlines more latitude in others. If an airline can#39;t re-route a passenger within 12 hours, it would have to book a customer on another airline or train. But airlines would have five hours before they#39;d have to pay compensation for delays, instead of three hours. #39;Cancellations are always worse for the passenger than delay,#39; says Frank Laurent, a policy officer for the European Commission in Brussels who helped draft the rules. #39;This proposal is much more realistic.#39;布鲁塞尔欧盟委员会里参与起草这些法规的政策官员弗兰克#8226;劳伦特(Frank Laurent)说:“航班取消对乘客的影响一般比航班延误更大。 The EC plan has been criticized by consumer groups as a watering down of passenger protections and by airlines as an unnecessary burden in compensation and rerouting. Mr. Laurent says the criticism from both sides probably means the proposal found middle ground. #39;What we tried to do with this proposal,#39; he said, #39;is to find a balance.#39;他说:“对于这项提案我们尽力要做到的,就是找到平衡。” /201304/236290

Google expert says TV is deadOne of the founding fathers of the internet has predicted the end of traditional television.Vint Cerf, who helped to build the internet while working as a researcher in America, said that television was approaching its "iPod moment"In the same way that people now download their favourite music onto their iPod, he said that viewers would soon be downloading most of favourite programmes onto their computers."85 per cent of all we watch is pre-recorded, so you can set your system to download it all the time," said Mr Cerf, who is now the vice-president of the Google, the world's largest search engine."You're still going to need live television for certain things - like news, sporting events and emergencies - but increasingly it is going to be almost like the iPod, where you download content to look at later."Although television on demand has not yet become a mainstream activity in the UK, the B, ITV and Channel 4 have all invested vast sums of money in technology which enables viewers to watch their favourite shows on their computers. But some critics, including some internet service providers, have warned that the internet will collapse under the strain of millions of people downloading programmes at the same time.Over the next four years, it is thought that the number of s watched over the internet will quadruple, with people moving from short clips to hour-long programmes.Broadband companies claim that the service will cause "traffic jams", which will cost millions of pounds to sort out .But Mr Cerf dismissed the warnings as "scare tactics", saying that critics had predicted 20 years ago that the net would collapse when people all around the world started to use it en masse."In the intervening 30 years it's increased a million times... We're far from exhausting the capacity," he said. "It's an understandable worry when they see huge amounts of information being moved around online."Setting out his vision for the future of the internet, he said he wanted it to reach as many people as possible."I want more internet," he said. "I want every one of the six billion people on the planet to be able to connect to the internet."(AP) /200804/33392One day, Eve asked Adam,;Doyou really love me?;一天,夏娃问亚当:;你当真爱我吗?;Adam said helplessly,;Do I have any other choice?;亚当无可奈何地回答:;我还有的选择吗?; /201307/248612

The story情况Gymnast Li Ning became a Chinese hero in 1984 when he won six medals at the Los Angeles Olympics, the country’s first appearance at a summer games in 32 years. By 1990 he had set up his own sportswear company, Li-Ning. It was an immediate hit, and in 1999 the company’s revenues in China reached Rmb700m, more than twice Nike’s Rmb300m and Adidas’s Rmb100m. The challenge挑战The growing spending power of China’s middle-class consumers and their appetite for foreign brands, combined with the surging popularity of basketball and football – with which Nike and Adidas were associated – helped the two overseas companies win more sales in China than Li-Ning. The strategy策略Initially, there was little overlap in the market segments targeted by Li-Ning and its foreign rivals. The Chinese company offered mass-market leisurewear and Nike and Adidas sold professional-standard athletic wear; Li-Ning was market leader in China’s second and third-tier cities, while Nike and Adidas were in Beijing and Shanghai. But after 2001, when China won the bid to host the 2008 Olympics, interest in sports reached new heights. Li-Ning tried to emulate its foreign rivals’ marketing tactics. Brand ambassadors: The overseas companies used celebrity athletes such as American basketball players Michael Jordan (Nike) and Kobe Bryant (Adidas). Extreme jobs can ruin sex livesExtreme jobs play havoc on sex lives, according to a new study.Millions ofhigh flyingexecutives are risking divorce as the long hours they workplay havoc ontheir sex lives, a new study has found.Ambitious professionals are sacrificing their personal lives and ignoring their children because of the so-called "the extreme job".Research, published by the Harvard Business Review, identifies this new type of worker who regards a 10-hour day at work as part-time.It is "wreaking havoc on private lives and taking a toll on health and well-being", the research warns. The research estimates 45 per cent of high-earning people working for large global companies have "extreme jobs".For starters, an extreme job involves working at least 60 hours a week, although many work 100 hours or more. The biggest losers are the spouses and families of workers with extreme jobs.Nearly half of men and women who took part in the international research project said their jobs "interfere with having a strong relationship with my spouse/partner."At the end of a 12-hour or longer day at work, 45 per cent of all respondents in the global companies survey are too tired to say anything at all to their spouses or partners. The same number said that their jobs, which involves regular travel and evening entertainment, make it "impossible" to have a "satisfying sex life." Vocabulary:high flying : 高层的;高级的play havoc on : 对…

I wilt in the heat. Maybe it#39;s because I don#39;t live in very hot weather the majority of the year and my body doesn#39;t have much time to adjust. Regardless, this wilt-in-the-heat lady lives in a house now with no AC and very bad air-flow, which is an unfortunate combination. It#39;s tempting to simply eat all of your meals out, but really that#39;s not in our budget, and it#39;s hard to find really good food out on a budget. As much as and sometimes more. At least that#39;s the belief of high-end grocers like Whole Foods Market and a spurt of small juice companies trying to move the cold-pressed-juice craze from small-batch to mass-produced. A 16-ounce bottle of BluePrint Red, containing beets, carrots and ginger, among other ingredients, goes for at some retailers. And Whole Foods customers are paying for a bottle of celery-based Twelve Essentials vegetable juice, one of the top-sellers from Suja, an 18-month-old juice brand based in San Diego. Suja co-founder Annie Lawless says customers understand the high cost of what goes into the bottle, including organic produce that is cold pressed and then preserved using a process that leaves most of the nutrients intact. #39;When you buy a bottle, you#39;re getting all the goodness without any of the effort,#39; says Ms. Lawless, a 26-year-old former law student and yoga instructor. The company says it generated million in revenue in its first year. Just as carrying a Starbucks coffee cup has become a celebrity fashion accessory and a slung-over-the-shoulder yoga mat can signify a certain devotion to spiritual fitness, porting a clear bottle of green vegetable juice has evolved into a status symbol. Initially, the juicing market was supported mostly by people doing liquid-only cleanses, marketed as a way to rid the body of toxins and bloat. Now, more consumers are drinking juice as a meal replacement, a quick infusion of vegetables or to convey the impression of superior health and discipline. Suja#39;s product line is a slate of fruit-and-vegetable juices meant to dose the body with a palatable concentration of nutrients from organic produce. For people doing a liquid-only cleanse, Suja sells packages on its website. A three-day supply costs 5, including shipping on ice outside of California. It has flavors such as Glow, which contains apples, cucumbers, mint, kale and other ingredients, and Green Supreme, with apples, kale and lemon. Health experts say the vegetable drinks have many beneficial nutrients, although some ingredients, like apples and carrots, can add a lot of sugar. Consumers should be careful to get enough fiber in their diets, since the process of cold-pressed juicing extracts the juice from the fiber-rich leaves and stems. Good sources of fiber can include whole grains and nuts, which aid digestive health. A simpler route to a well-rounded diet might be to eat the vegetables themselves, rather than as juice, suggests Marion Nestle, a professor of nutrition, food studies and public health at New York University. #39;It#39;s a lot of money, why not have a salad?#39; 纽约大学(New York University)营养学、食品研究及公共卫生教授玛丽昂#12539;内斯特(Marion Nestle)说,更简单的一种达到全面饮食的方法是直接吃蔬菜。 Juice companies say the high cost of the organic produce, and the expense of processing, prevent them from selling their product for less. Consumers making their own juice at home with similar ingredients would pay about the same or more, not counting the cost of equipment, they say. #39;We wish we could bring the cost down,#39; says Zoe Sakoutis, co-founder of BluePrint. Sarah Andersen, 31, drinks about five bottles of Suja juice a week and says it leaves her feeling healthy and confident. A health-and-wellness trainer for teenage girls in Madison, N.J., Ms. Andersen says she used to make her own juice. But the time, effort and mess became onerous. Now she buys Suja, even if it means cutting back elsewhere. #39;I know it#39;s expensive but I would rather have a juice than get my nails done.#39; Industry experts say overall sales of cold-pressed juice aren#39;t tracked separately. But the segment is a bright spot in an otherwise stagnant juice market, they say. National retailers like Whole Foods are devoting increased shelf space to the products, more companies are launching, and acquisitions and expansion in the industry have been robust, says Jonas Feliciano, a beverages analyst for Euromonitor International, a market-research company. #39;Americans are drinking less juice,#39; he says. #39;So what manufacturers are going for is attracting the health-conscious consumer who will pay higher costs for smaller volumes.#39; Errol Schweizer, executive global grocery coordinator for Whole Foods, says the company was skeptical at first that consumers would be willing to pay such high prices for juice. But, he says, #39;I have been surprised by the cleansing products and what people are willing to spend.#39; Whole Foods全球食品执行协调员埃罗尔#12539;施魏策尔(Errol Schweizer)说,公司起初怀疑消费者是否会愿意花这么高的价格买果汁。 Still, Whole Foods is hedging its bets. Mr. Schweizer says he called on Suja to work with Whole Foods#39; product team to create a secondary line of less expensive juices and smoothies. The line, called Suja Elements, was launched in Whole Foods stores around the country this fall and retails for . The bottles are smaller -- 12 ounces versus the usual 16 ounces -- and the recipes tend to use lower-cost ingredients like apples and carrots. BluePrint was founded six years ago to sell a six-bottle-a-day-cleanse product that costs a day. It includes a lemon, cayenne and agave concoction meant to #39;hydrate, refresh, curb that 4 p.m. snack craving and stay focused,#39; the company website says. BluePrint now also sells individual bottles of juice at high-end grocers around the country. Another cleanse product: BluePrintBride, for women wanting to lose weight and detoxify before their wedding, starts at 0. BluePrint, which was acquired last year by Hain Celestial Group Inc., in Melville, N.Y., says it had million in sales last year. Another cold-pressed juice company, Evolution Fresh, was purchased by Seattle-based Starbucks Coffee Co. two years ago for million. The company recently invested million to open a factory in Southern California to produce 140,000 gallons of juice a week, says Chris Bruzzo, general manager of Evolution Fresh. Mr. Bruzzo says the juices are now carried in 5,000 Starbucks locations and 3,000 grocery outlets. The best sellers are two varieties of green juice, he says. Getting pricey cold-pressed juice on the shelves of national supermarkets and specialty stores has been a challenge. Stores like Whole Foods typically require a shelf-life of about 30 days for packaged juices. But traditional methods of preserving foods use heat, which destroys some nutrients. Cold-pressed juice companies didn#39;t want that. To extend shelf life, some companies, including Suja, BluePrint and Evolution Fresh, have turned to a process often called high-pressure processing (HPP), which inactivates most microorganisms while retaining natural freshness. HPP, also used to preserve guacamole and y-to-eat meats, subjects the food to intense pressure of thousands of pounds a square inch. High-pressure processing, however, is the subject of a lawsuit filed against Hain Celestial in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York last month. The suit says that HPP destroys some probiotics and enzymes and that BluePrint labels falsely advertise its products as #39;raw.#39; A BluePrint spokeswoman declined to comment on the suit. (District Court for the Southern District of New York)针对Hain Celestial公司的诉讼的主要议题。 Ms. Lawless, the Suja co-founder, has long made juice at home because she has celiac disease. She and a partner, Eric Ethans, in 2011 began selling juice to her yoga students who would ask about her juicing. The small operation attracted two investors, including Jeff Church, 52, a bottled-water entrepreneur. He approached Whole Foods, which began offering Suja products in its stores in fall of 2012. Suja -- a word the company founders made up that signifies to them #39;long and beautiful life,#39; a spokeswoman says -- now produces on average 10,000 bottles a week of each of its 19 flavors at its Southern California plant. It acquired an organic-produce distributor to ease supply issues. And it plans to open a plant in the Philadelphia area next year to have quicker access to more markets. #39;It#39;s about getting the kale picked and on the shelf at Whole Foods as fast as we possibly can,#39; says Mr. Church, Suja#39;s chief executive. /201312/267962
