Now I dress in a way that it sounds good. So today Im dressed in C major,今天我的穿着基于C大调,so its quite a happy chord. If I had to go to a funeral, though,如果我需要去参加一个葬礼,I would dress in B minor, which would be turquoise, purple and orange. Also, food, the way I look at food has changed,还有,食物,我看待食物的方式也变了,because now I can display the food on a plate,因为现在我能把食物组合好放在盘子里,so I can eat my favorite song. So depending on how I display it,这取决于我怎么排列我的食物,I can hear and I can compose music with food. So imagine a restaurant where we can have, like,设想一下有这么一家餐厅,Lady Gaga salads as starters. 我想,this would get teenagers to eat their vegetables, probably. And also, some Rachmaninov piano concertos as main dishes, and some Bjork or Madonna desserts,还有,餐厅供应拉赫玛尼诺夫钢琴协奏曲作为主菜,还有Bj?rk乐队或麦当娜甜点,that would be a very exciting restaurant where you can actually eat songs. Also, the way I perceive beauty has changed,还有,我对美的感知也产生变化了,because when I look at someone, I hear their face,因为当我看一个人时,我能听到他的脸,so someone might look very beautiful but sound terrible. And it might happen the opposite,相反的情况也可能发生,the other way around. So I really enjoy creating, like,看起来恐怖听起来悦耳。所以我很享受sound portraits of people. Instead of drawing someones face, like drawing the shape,而不是画出他的样子,画出他的轮廓。I point at them with the eye and I write down the different notes I hear, and then I create sound portraits. Heres some faces. Yeah, Nicole Kidman sounds good. Some people, I would never relate, but they sound similar. 201508/394129Thank you, President Cowan, Mrs. President Cowen; distinguished guests, undistinguished guests - you know who you are, honored faculty and creepy Spanish teacher. 以及讨厌的西班牙语老师(众人大笑)And thank you to all the graduating class of , I realize most of you are hungover and have splitting headaches and havent slept since Fat Tuesday, but you cant graduate til I finish, so listen up.感谢所有届的毕业生,我知道你们绝大多数人还因为宿醉头痛欲裂,狂欢到今天都还没睡,但是没听完我的演讲不能毕业,所以都听好了!(学生们欢呼)When I was asked to make the commencement speech, I immediately said yes. Then I went to look up what commencement meant. Which would have been easy if I had a dictionary, but most of the books in our house are Portias, and theyre all written in Australian. So I had to break the word down myself, to find out the meaning. Commencement: common, and cement. Common cement. You commonly see cement on sidewalks. Sidewalks have cracks, and if you step on a crack, you break your mothers back. So theres that. But Im honored that youve asked me here to speak at your common cement.“commencement毕业典礼”:commen常见的+cement水泥,常见的水泥(众人大笑)你常常见到水泥,在人行道上,人行道有裂缝,你要是踩到裂缝,就会撞伤你妈妈的背(大家笑),所以大概意思就是这样了(笑声)I thought that you had to be a famous alumnus - alumini - aluminum - alumis - you had to graduate from this school. And I didnt go to college here, and I dont know if President Cowan knows, I didnt go to any college at all. Any college. And Im not saying you wasted your time, or money, but look at me, I;m a huge celebrity. 我倒不是在说你们在浪费时间和金钱,不过看看我,我是个超级成功的大名人唉!(大家爆笑)Although I did graduate from the school of hard knocks, our mascot was the knockers. I spent a lot of time here growing up. My mom worked at (? 估计是某家商店的名字) and I would go there every time I needed to steal something out of her purse. But why am I here today? Clearly not to steal, youre too far away and Id never get away with it. 但我今天在这里的原因,显然不是要偷你们的钱……Im here because of you. Because I cant think of a more tenacious, more courageous graduating class. I mean, look at you all, wearing your robes. Usually when youre wearing a robe at 10 in the morning, it means youve given up. Im here because I love New Orleans. I was born and raised here, I spent my formative years here, and like you, while I was living here I only did laundry six times. When I finished school, I was completely lost. And by school, I mean middle school, but I went ahead and finished high school anyway. And I - I really, I had no ambition, I didnt know what I wanted to do. I did everything from - I shucked oysters, I was a hostess, I was a bartender, I was a waitress, I painted houses, I sold vaccuum cleaners, I had no idea. And I thought Id just finally settle in some job, and I would make enough money to pay my rent, maybe have basic cable, maybe not, I didnt really have a plan, my point is that, by the time I was your age, I really thought I knew who I was, but I had no idea. Like for example, when I was your age, I was dating men. So what Im saying is, when youre older, most of you will be gay. Anyone writing this stuff down? Parents? 所以我的意思是:当你们再长大些后,大多数的人,都会是gay!(场内爆笑,ellen自己也笑了)Anyway, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life, and the way I ended up on this path was from a very tragic event. I was maybe 19, and my girlfriend at the time was killed in a car accident. And I passed the accident, and I didnt know it was her and I kept going, and I found out shortly after that, it was her. And I was living in a basement apartment, I had no money, I had no heat, no air, I had a mattress on the floor and the apartment was infested with fleas. And I was soul-searching, I was like, why is she suddenly gone, and there are fleas here? I dont understand, there must be a purpose, and wouldnt it be so convenient if we could pick up the phone and call God, and ask these questions. And I started writing and what poured out of me was an imaginary conversation with God, which was one-sided, and I finished writing it and I looked at it and I said to myself, and I hadnt even been doing stand-up, ever, there was no club in town. I said, ;Im gonna do this on the Tonight Show With Johnny Carson;- at the time he was the king - ;and Im gonna be the first woman in the history of the show to be called over to sit down.; And several years later, I was the first woman in the history of the show, and only woman in the history of the show to sit down, because of that phone conversation with God that I wrote. And I started this path of stand-up and it was successful and it was great, but it was hard, because I was trying to please everybody and I had this secret that I was keeping, that I was gay. And I thought if people found out they wouldnt like me, they wouldnt laugh at me. Then my career turned into - I got my own sitcom, and that was very successful, another level of success. And I thought, what if they find out Im gay, then theyll never watch, and this was a long time ago, this was when we just had white presidents - this was back, many years ago - and I finally decided that I was living with so much shame, and so much fear, that I just couldnt live that way anymore, and I decided to come out and make it creative. And my character would come out at the same time, and it wasnt to make a political statement, it wasnt to do anything other than to free myself up from this heaviness that I was carrying around, and I just wanted to be honest. And I thought, ;Whats the worst that could happen? I can lose my career;. I did. I lost my career. The show was cancelled after six years, without even telling me, I it in the paper. The phone didnt ring for three years. I had no offers. Nobody wanted to touch me at all. Yet, I was getting letters from kids that almost committed suicide, but didnt, because of what I did. And I realised that I had a purpose. And it wasnt just about me and it wasnt about celebrity, but I felt like I was being punished... it was a bad time, I was angry, I was sad, and then I was offered a talkshow. And the people that offered me the talkshow tried to sell it. And most stations didnt want to pick it up. Most people didnt want to buy it because they thought nobody would watch me. Really when I look back on it, I wouldnt change a thing. I mean, it was so important for me to lose everything because I found out what the most important thing is, is to be true to yourself. Ultimately, thats whats gotten me to this place. I dont live in fear, Im free, I have no secrets. and I know Ill always be ok, because no matter what, I know who I am. So In conclusion, when I was younger I thought success was something different. I thought when I grow up, I want to be famous. I want to be a star. I want to be in movies. When I grow up I want to see the world, drive nice cars, I want to have groupies. To e the Pussycat Dolls. How many people thought it was ;boobies;, by the way? Its not, its ;groupies;. And as you grow, youll realise the definition of success changes. For many of you, today, success is being able to hold down 20 shots of tequila. For me, the most important thing in your life is to live your life with integrity, and not to give into peer pressure. to try to be something that youre not. To live your life as an honest and compassionate person. to contribute in some way. So to conclude my conclusion: follow your passion, stay true to yourself. Never follow anyone elses path, unless youre in the woods and youre lost and you see a path, and by all means you should follow that. Dont give advice, it will come back and bite you in the ass. Dont take anyones advice. So my advice to you is to be true to yourself and everything will be fine. And I know that a lot of you are concerned about your future, but theres no need to worry. The economy is booming, the job market is wide open, the planet is just fine. Its gonna be great. Youve aly survived a hurricane. What else can happen to you? And as I mentioned before, some of the most devastating things that happen to you will teach you the most. And now you know the right questions to ask in your first job interview. Like, ;Is it above sea level?; . 比如现在你第一次面试,就知道该问考官什么了,例如“公司高于海平面吗?”(大家大笑,纽奥良因地势低被淹水)So to conclude my conclusion that Ive previously concluded, in the common cement speech, I guess what Im trying to say is life is like one big Mardi Gras. But instead of showing your boobs, show people your brain, and if they like what they see, youll have more beads than you know what to do with. And youll be drunk, most of the time. So the Katrina class of , I say congratulations and if you dont remember a thing I said today, remember this: youre gonna be ok, dum de dum dum dum, just dance.

These people succeeded because they understood that you cant let your failures define you -- you have to let your failures teach you. You have to let them show you what to do differently the next time. So if you get into trouble, that doesnt mean youre a troublemaker, it means you need to try harder to act right. If you get a bad grade, that doesnt mean youre stupid, it just means you need to spend more time studying. No ones born being good at all things. You become good at things through hard work. Youre not a varsity athlete the first time you play a new sport. You dont hit every note the first time you sing a song. Youve got to practice. The same principle applies to your schoolwork. You might have to do a math problem a few times before you get it right. You might have to something a few times before you understand it. You definitely have to do a few drafts of a paper before its good enough to hand in. Dont be afraid to ask questions. Dont be afraid to ask for help when you need it. I do that every day. Asking for help isnt a sign of weakness, its a sign of strength because it shows you have the courage to admit when you dont know something, and that then allows you to learn something new. So find an adult that you trust -- a parent, a grandparent or teacher, a coach or a counselor—and ask them to help you stay on track to meet your goals. This Labor Day weekend, as we gather with family and friends,值此周末劳动节之际,我们将与家人和朋友欢聚,well also come together as a nation to honor some of our own-the working men and women of America who, across the generations, built this country up and helped make us who we are today. On Monday, well celebrate that proud history. Well pay tribute to the values working Americans embody-hard work; responsibility; sacrifice; looking out for one another. And well recommit ourselves to their cause; to securing for them a better bargain so that everyone who works hard in America has a chance to get ahead. See, over the past four and a half years, weve fought our way back from the worst recession of our lifetimes. And thanks to the grit and resilience of the American people, weve begun to lay a foundation for stronger, more durable economic growth. But as any working family will tell you, were not where we need to be. For over a decade, working Americans have seen their wages and incomes stagnate, even as corporate profits soar and the pay of a fortunate few explodes. For even longer than that, inequality has steadily risen; the journey of upward mobility has become harder. And in too many communities across this country, the shadow of poverty continues to cast a pall over our fellow citizens. Reversing that trend needs to be Washingtons highest priority. Its certainly mine. Thats why, over the past month, Ive traveled all across America, laying out my ideas for how we can build on the cornerstones of what it means to be middle class. A good job that pays a good wage. 包括高薪的好工作;A good education. A home of your own. Health care when you get sick. A secure retirement even if youre not rich. And more chances for folks to earn their way into the middle class as long as theyre willing to work for it. The truth is, its not going to be easy to reverse the forces that have conspired-for decades-against working Americans. But if we take a few bold steps-and if Washington is able to come together with common purpose and common resolve-well get there. Our economy will keep getting stronger and more Americans will be able to join the ranks of the middle-class. So this Labor Day, while youre out there grilling in the backyard,因此,今年的劳动节,当你在后院烧烤,or taking that final trip for the summer,或者是进行今年夏天最后一次出游的时候,I hope youll also take a moment to reflect on the many contributions of our working men and women. For generations, it was the great American middle class that made our economy the envy of the world. And as long as Im President, Im going to keep fighting to make sure that happens again. Thanks, and have a great weekend.

The neighbor who resolutely respects himself, and because he does so, respects the rights of others. The neighbor who respects his obligation, and respects the sanctity of his agreement, in and with, a world of neighbor. If I the temper of our people correctly, we now realize what we have never realized before, our inter-dependence on each other, that we cannot merely take, but we must give as well. That if we are to go forward, we must move as a trained and loyal army, willing to sacrifice for the good of a common discipline, because without such discipline, no progress can be made, no leadership becomes effective. We are all y and willing to submit our lives and our property to such discipline because it makes possible a leadership which aims at the larger good.
